Brief of Moderation

-Even though the original reason for entering Iraq was false, and formulated to gain support for invading the country, the intentions of the United States were still positive and meant to liberate the people of the area.
o The CIA has stated that they knew there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
o The United States, even through it used to a false reason, liberated the people of Iraq from the oppression of Saddam Hussein.
-Many of the troops could return to the US, leaving only small bases to fix the problem that we started.
o Since the United States went into Iraq under false pretenses, remaining there with a full presence is unneeded.
o The situation in Iraq has changed so the county is now politically and economically unstable, so a full withdraw would have many negative ramifications. Allowing a small number of bases to remain is the most effective way to resolve this issue.
-Even though a troop withdraw from Iraq is what the public is demanding, historically, this type of withdraw has negative consequences to the United States.
o Historically, terrorist groups tend to move into the Middle East when the United States pulls out rapidly.
o After the United States trained the group of “freedom freighters” to assist our troops during one of the conflicts. Once the troops left this group changed and became a group which held a large dislike of the United States.
-Oil is another subject that requires mediation. Even though it is agreed that it is a major concern in the area, it should not be a reason to remain in the area.
o This is because the major oil companies in America as well as oil groups would prevent this from happening because of the amount of money it would cause them to lose.
